Kenneth Pobo

Real Gone

Villa Park, Illinois. 1966. Sunshine came

softy through my window today

sang Donovan. Sunshine with fangs.

Many couldn’t find Saigon on a map. Dads

came home from work before six. Mine

had a glass of wine. Mom asked Pastor

was it OK to join him? On TV,

Andy Griffith told wise stories

to keep Opie safe. My path

had lavender leaves. Library books

offered advice–

no lavender pictures.
