Where are our legends?
Lost downtown in smog;
wander through alleys,
ask kids for change as they
come out of the diners,
say things like, “I never
do this,” and “I’m in a
tough spot here, kid.”
On benches, cliché public
parks, panic sets in, run
to the store to raid
March of Dimes donation
boxes, snatch subway
tokens from your pocket
to take the train back
for last call in the drunk
dungeon, lost in the haze
of old city mazes –
